OnPerformance grew from our extensive experience helping hundreds of thousands of individuals and thousands of
organizations around the world to measurably improve their performance. Our work began in 1998 when we established a
consultancy which applied engineering principles to human resource management. That same year we also launched
Staffing.org and later, HRMetrics.org, both of which became leading authorities on human resource performance.
Founder and President Nick Burkholder co-authored The Executive Career Guide with Richard H. Beatty and with Preston
Edwards, Sr. and Libby Sartain edited the book on the most fundamental and critical driver of organization performance:
On Staffing: Advice and Perspectives from HR Leaders. Nick also wrote Outsourcing: Perspectives, Applications & Implications,
which organization leaders have rated “the single best take on outsourcing.” He also wrote Ultimate Performance: Measuring
Human Resources at Work, with Scott Golas and Jeremy Shapiro. All were published by John Wiley and Sons.
Prompted by routine conversations with C level executives, we began working with organization buyers of products
and services in 2003. In 2004 we surveyed executive buyers—not consultants, employees or influencers-but
directors and vice presidents with actual approval and signing authority. Over 1,100 responded, representing
highly successful and established companies including Bank of America, Dell, Fidelity, General Electric, IBM,
Johnson & Johnson, Lockheed Martin, Merck, Pfizer, several U.S. government organizations and over ninety hospitals.
As we established B2B focus groups we started working with consumers. Between 2004 and 2006 we developed and tested
our systems and processes with ongoing input from buyers. By the time we launched the beta site we had input from over
26,000 organization buyers and 107,000 individual consumers.
